IODR came together with the Sri Lanka Trauma Group to host a unique fundraising dinner on 6th March 2009.
The evening began in style with a sumptuous three-course Sri Lankan/Asian fusion menu created especially by the Grange City Hotel’s head chef, followed by a stunning programme of live entertaining. Performers included participants from the Galle Literary Festival, Mandira de Seram on violin and Christopher Hopkins on piano, together with recital of George Claessen’s poetry given by Esmaralda Claessen.
Guests also generously participated in a live art auction and raffle on the night.
A registered UK charity, the UK-Sri Lanka Trauma Group aims to assist all of Sri Lanka’s communities to deal with the psychological impact of trauma, particularly in the aftermath of the civil conflict and the Boxing Day Tsunami. IODR’s ongoing Weligama project also seeks to improve the livelihoods of local people by implementing sustainable education and community projects in Southern Sri Lanka and throughout the Indian Ocean Region.
